M-Spam, SMS Spam, Mobile Spamming it is still the same thing...UNWANTED Text messaging to your mobile phone. Ok so is it legal in Jamaica - Yes! (If you believe nothing illegal is legal). Its pretty easy to spam Jamaican mobile phones. However no one in Jamaica has done it with any great degree of success. There are easily over 1,000,000 active mobile phones in Jamaica across networks. So why has no one done this?. We really don't have any idea. But does it even make sense for a tech company or a brick and mortar company to do this?It is being banded about that a new company is seeking to enact this service. How we would love to know. Once they legitimize it, take in cash from potential advertisers, spammers will race to their computers and drown out the legitimacy of the program. However can the networks bring legal charges against spammers. Cable And Wireless Jamaica, Digicel and MiPhone have really no way of stopping this and truly do they even care. If neither of these companies has attempted to monetize text messaging as a major income earner then they know the pitfalls of trying to do it.
However are we really sleeping. Imagine a website that spams the address for a .mobi site with free ring tones. Lots of bandwith and lots of ads, and a great CTR, How could one go wrong. Its an immediate gold mine. But will you pay it iout in legal fees....yet to be seen. We wish these Hondigo Enterprises all the best!!
