Ok with the Trafigura scandal and Portia and webmasters. So you might ask, how does the Trafigura scandal in Jamaica and the returning or non-returning of money to the Dutch company affect us webmasters? Well it does and in so many ways. First many online line buyers believe in trust as much as Google uses the trust rank. It’s not just a matter of the better Business Bureau or Verisign or some other Encryption method when accepting credit cards online that determines trust. Until Jamaica becomes a trusted source then online sales of Jamaican products and services will never become a major reality. Let’s think when the world at large sees a country with its own government behaving in a crooked manner it seems pretty likely that the people are underhanded too. Don’t believe me….Well would YOU buy a product from an online company in Haiti . Ahh…..got you! one would be foolish not to think about the threat of theft by a Haitian company and possibly be deterred from buying any online products from that country. So the same way we think of Haitians it’s the same way people in “First World Countries” think about online firms in Jamaica . I would be seen as a part of the problem rather than a part of the solution if I didn’t state a possible solution. The first and only step in creating online Trust Rank is to develop a proper legal system that will allow purchasers overseas some recourse against online sellers. This allows the buyers some comfort in knowing that if the individual attempts to rob the buyer that they won’t get far. I know many webmasters have other suggestions and feel free to comment and let me know.
